I have not made a scrap page in I don't know how long, but it's DSD so a scrapping I will go! I hosted a Speed Scrap for the playgroup mommies and since I was the only one on for most of the hour I got to make myself a page as well =) Here's my progress step-by-step, just in case you're interested, with the finished product at the end (I had to move a paper at the end because I somehow had trouble following my own instructions, lol)

The participation prize was the alpha that I've discontinued here. Maybe for the next one I'll make a brand new alpha...I'm on a new computer now and it's much, much faster than the old one so it wouldn't take me nearly as long!

Parlor Floor Alpha

I made my first alpha! All by myself! Thank you Jenn for helping me come up with a name for it!! This alpha has the lower case letters & numbers, plus an exclamation point, all in one sheet. Drop shadows are for preview purposes only.

Furry Overlay

I found an old picture I took of a furry piece of fabric (testing lighting, don't know why I kept it) and thought it *might* make a good overlay...I haven't seen too many furry overlays, though, so it may just be that this isn't something people want or need. lol. guess if there are no downloads I'll know ;)

2010 Calendar Grids

It has taken me long enough, but I got off my lazy bum & finished up the grids tonight. Took me all of 10 minutes to resize them, but what can I say? I procrastinate a lot, and 2010 is a fair ways away still. DH is bugging me to put days of the week on them & re-offer them that way. We'll see!

2010 Freebie

After the super rush of last year, and getting my calendars delivered on the 26th of December, I figured a head start this year probably wouldn't hurt. So without further ado, here is a little freebie to help you get a head start, too!

My page that appears in the preview was made using Scrappy Smile's The Photographer kit, as well as the alpha from Pimp My Scrapbook's East High kit.

But before you run with this, here's some more info about the guides. These aren't templates b/c, well, I'm just not that good at making nice ones =D I hope you find them useful nonetheless!

The sizing is for 11x8.5 center fold calendars. This means calendars whose tops and bottoms are each 11x8.5.

These guides are meant to tell you where it is safe to place essential elements. I have tested them using Artscow, and anything inside the topper square is safe. The drill hole lands just below the date grid on the bottoms.

Please note that a 1/4" bleed area is already included in the guide size. If you change the dimensions the guides may not be as accurate.

Experiences

I think there are a lot of experiences I've had that the average joe hasn't, and a lot of average experiences that I've never gone through. I was on a gourney for the very first time last week. I was actually wheeled from the operating room to the recovery area, and the whole way I was thinking that it might be a once in a lifetime experience & I should enjoy it. But then I felt bad for feeling that way, because I'm sure most people who do that would rather not have to. And I was under no sedation, so no drugs to blame it on, either.

I've been arrested, once. I went to a protest in 2003 with the intent of taking pictures. Mostly of the police there in riot gear. I wasn't interested in the protesters - I was one myself, so it was old news. But I'd never done any photo journalism & was heavy into photography at the time. I missed the best shot - a policeman's horse trampled a bystander's bicycle. I still regret missing that.

I went to the protest with a friend, who was also taking pictures. When we had taken a crap ton of them, we decided the day wouldn't feel complete without an arrest, so we packed our stuff up and the next time we were given an order to leave the area we refused and were arrested. We were put into a paddy wagon (how many people can claim that experience?) and driven to a garage that had chain link cages set up. We got mug shots taken, they took our bags, and we were put into a 'corral' area with the other 1500 people arrested that day (I'm sure they weren't all in that particular parking garage, but there were a TON of them there.)

Hours later we were released on our own recognizance and went home. All of the non-violent charges made in connection to the protest were dropped by the city before the date of court appearance. And here is my favorite shot from that day. I followed the police officer second from the right quite a bit and got some good shots of him.

Speed Scrap!

I finally finished this darn calendar...now I just have to track down photos & make alternate pages for the opposing sides of the family...next year I'm starting way earlier! Like, on Halloween!

I'm just gonna put the clickable thumbnails here, credits along the bottom...they're way too big to put full size...they'll all be made matchy before being sent off to the printer =)

Calendar Grid Freebie

I was only able to find one calendar template freebie in the last month, and that was (obviously) only one size, which wasn't the size I really wanted. So after I was most of the way through making my calendar I broke down and made some templates myself.

This example bottom was made using Addon Bienôt Noël by Nini-lolo =)

READ: These are 11 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall. They are meant to be the bottom half of a center fold calendar. Please take bleed into account and increase the canvas size to whatever your printer recommends first! I know you're planning on printing it, and a little footwork in the beginning will save you much aggravation later.

A Purpose!

Well, this blog now officially has a purpose! It is destined to be lost in the sea of digiscrap offerings. As if there weren't enough of those blogs already, I'm adding to it =) But no designing for me...templates are much easier for me right now, lol. I shall return in the next few days with some templates!

**PS: please ignore the barren & non-scrappy nature of this blog. When I'm done with making scrappy Xmas presents I'll work on it.
